When I first shot Jorgen, I was shooting digital. I was at a lighting workshop and she was one of the models. Not only was she obviously gorgeous, but she was such a sweetheart. About a year later, we finally got together again for this shoot. I was shooting film by then and lots had changed about my style and what I wanted to say as an artist. I knew Jorgen would be perfect in helping me show the artist I am wanting to become.
I get asked a lot why I switched from digital to film. The answer is so simple, yet, so…not. I wasn’t happy with how my digital images were looking. It’s hard to explain, but they felt too clean. Almost plastic looking. My favorite photographers shot film. Their images really moved me. They were raw. They felt real. They were imperfect with grain and almost “soft” looking. And I loved it every bit of it. I went to my husband with the idea of switching and he completely supported me. I sold every bit of my digital gear and bought my Contax 645 kit. Film has been so much more then I ever expected it to be. It has given me the balance in my life that I had been craving. I take my time at sessions. I really give each image thought. There is something so real about knowing that image is forever imprinted on a negative. For me, film has been such a beautiful and wonderful thing in my life.
