This particular session was so so so much fun to shoot. Stephanie and I had discussed all sorts of fun ideas when she announced that she was pregnant, but this particular idea stuck out to me from an old Dior perfume ad I saw in a Vogue magazine. I always remembered that particular ad, and I wanted to use the giant balloon element as a fun and whimsical way to show off Steph’s beauty and fun side! She was up for whatever crazy ideas I had for her, but she had no idea what she was getting herself into…. The balloons had to be special-ordered, and I had a company blow them up for me (one balloon takes an entire party tank of helium!!), but I failed to think through the minor detail of how I was going to transport these balloons to our photo location! A single large balloon was two times the size of my car door opening, and needless to say- there was no way I get get them in. With a few friends on hand to help me, we wrangled all the balloons together and sat on the curb as my husband served as my knight in shining armor, and ran to borrow his parents’ motorhome to come pick us up and rescue us form this balloon fiasco! That’s right, we somehow figured out a way to squeeze each giant balloon in the motorhome door, one by one, and drove to the photo location just in time for our session. We were dyinglaughing, and it was quite the sight to behold! =)

But in the end, the transportation disaster, the desert wind, and even the summer monsoon storm that was rolling in closer each minute- could not stop Stephanie from shining so brightly. She was fun and playful, and completely embraced the balloon idea and its whimsy. It was a night of laughs and fun memories, and didn’t feel like it was work at all! This session is a perfect example of why I love photography… sometimes it’s not just the final product or that “perfect” picture… it’s the creative juices, and the adventure that gets me excited.
