Planning a winter wedding in Auckland meant a couple of things to us – probably rain, but more importantly, some of my favorite flowers were in season – freesias! And we didn’t need to stress about being super organized and planning our ‘party’ years in advance…which is definitely not our style. We decided to keep the focus of our day on relaxed fun, with a small-ish ceremony and dinner at Mollies in Auckland with immediate family only, followed by a cocktail party at Sugar Bar with all our friends and extended family. None of the fussy traditional details like table settings, favors or leaving the party by midnight interested us so we decided to leave these out of our day and make it unique to us. We had a fairly DIY aspect to our celebrations, calling on a few favors from family and friends, including the amazing vintage Mercury car I got delivered in, a wedding cake made by 3 generations of woman on my husbands side (including the robot bride & groom cake topper) flowers by a family friends road-side country florist coming in under $100 and last but not least, causing many sleepless nights (not for me) my dress which my mum made! We wouldn’t have changed ANYTHING and were really happy with all of the amazing suppliers we used. I think my top piece of advice to other brides would be not to feel like all the little details are essential if it’s not your style. At the end of the day, these are not what people will remember!

No photo of the cake! – I’m so curious, since it was mentioned in the blurb. Gorgeous pics (amazing photographer) and you look as tho you had such FUN! (which is what it’s all about – never mind overstressing) xx
