We are thrilled to be in our new barn loft studio!  Our new space affords us the opportunity to not only hold photo sessions but to also meet with our clients to view and order their images.  We are on the 2nd floor of an old barn set on 15 acres of private property.  We were able to custom design our packaging area which also serves as a kitchenette for us to offer snacks and beverages to our clients when they come for shoots or proofing and ordering sessions.  We constructed a special children’s room where they can play or watch a video.  This room is also a space where mothers can privately nurse or change their newborns.   I believe our favorite spot might be the prop closet!  It is a dream to walk in and choose the props that will best suit our session.  We absolutely love going to work each day!  We had hoped to create a place of inspiration and it has been just that!

This is the studio gallery of Luminosity Photography & Design. We are based in Smyrna, DE. We utilize our studio for the most part to meet with clients and share their images with them for the first time. We currently only shoot newborns inside.

Clients are welcomed at the front door and encouraged to make themselves at home when they arrive. We offer coffee, cold beverages and an array of snacks upon arrival and of course a box of tissues for the slideshow!

We also have a kids corner right off of the gallery room where kids can color, play or watch a DVD. This is a great feature for parents who do not have the option of leaving the kids at home but would love to be able to enjoy uninterrupted decision making! Our Client Proofing area also doubles as our office area. The space was designed with a “family room” like atmosphere where clients can sit back and view their images on a 55″ flat screen tv.

From beginning to end our goal is to offer remarkable photos with a memorable experience.

When we decided to build a studio on our property, we thought we would have our choice of location and design (since we have 6 acres in the middle of nowhere)…well the powers that be (silly county laws), told us that any home based business HAD to be attached to the home.  With left us with 2 options:  build a loft OVER the existing garage (super expensive, we soon discovered)…OR, remodel our garage INTO a natural light studio, and build a separate pole barn to serve as our new garage.   It definitely wasn’t an easy feat getting my husband on board, but once he realized that I wasn’t going to let this go, he was nothing but awesome!  I also think it helped that he was getting sick and tired of being kicked out of the house (with our 3 kids) every time I had a family come over for a session!
After removing the garage doors, adding several walls, and installing a huge 8 ft high window, we now have over 900 sq feet of dedicated studio space.  It definitely is not something to enter into lightly…but I’ve been using it for over 3 months now, and it has brought my business to a new level…I finally have room to hang large wall displays, which has really helped people to realize what they can do with their own pictures!  My husband and kids are happier too…no more leaving when mommy has a session…they only have 1 rule: when clients are over, stay out of the main level bathroom!  The only real downfall…my house has become a total disaster zone.  No more scrubbing the kitchen floor before clients come over…nope, I just close the door to the main house, and no one is the wiser ;)
